holding the room – Public Speaking course
Public speaking obligations used to literally keep me up at night with anxiety, I’d be unable to think of anything else until it was over, and instead of trying to make an impact with my speech the best I’d be able to do was try to get through it in one piece.
Now when I’m booked on a public speaking engagement it feels like I’ve booked tickets to a fun activity, like abseiling or go-karting, that will give me a little adrenaline rush but ultimately is just an enjoyable playful thing to look forward to.
People who do the work to be able to deliver impactful public speaking (whether that’s a simple team meeting or a keynote speech) become so much more valuable in their careers.
Don’t spend the rest of your life dreading public speaking – learn how to deliver authentic, impactful presentations and speeches, and really engage your colleagues when leading meetings.
Holding The Room – Public Speaking Course Content
The vision for your speech or presentation
Who is your audience?
What do they care about, and how can you help them with whatever that is?
We’ll uncover methods to make sure you show up to deliver value on stage/ in the boardroom/ leading your meetings.
Planning &
Preparation
You’ll learn a framework that you can apply when preparing for any public speaking event, large or small.
The time and energy it takes you to write and rehearse your speech or presentation will be drastically lower (which definitely helps keep nerves at bay too!).
Elite communication
The secret sauce can be found here:
We’ll look at every aspect of what you are communicating to the audience from word selection, tone and pace, to your physical presentation and vocal image, body language and eye contact.
We do not do this to make you a carbon copy of every cheesy TED talker out there, but instead to allow you to show up as your authentic self and to be fully seen and understood by your audience.
Powerpoint? Prezi? Nothing..?
Death by powerpoint? Perplexed by Prezi? Can’t stand Canva?
We’ll look at using presentation software in engaging new ways to serve the terminal objective of your presentation, but also how to present without them.
By the end of this part of the course you’ll be able to produce beautiful high-end presentations, but you’ll also be empowered to only do that when they are needed, not use them as a crutch.
embracing nerves, rejecting fear
Nerves are good (when you have the tools to manage them).
Fear is bad (but I can help you turn unhelpful fear into well-managed nerves).
Whether you experience nervousness, fear, excitement or any other emotion around speaking publicly you will acquire a toolkit to manage those emotions, so when you step in front of your audience you can deliver authentically and impactfully.
With my techniques and support you might even go from dreading public speaking to loving it!! That’s exactly what happened to me.
Showtime! Delivery masterclass
With the lightbulb moments in your speech as a guide you’ll learn how to ensure your delivery is attention-grabbing, impactful, clear and laden with gravitas.
Many of the best speakers in the world did not start out that way, they honed their delivery skills, and you can too!
You’ll apply these techniques every time you take to the stage, and deliver as your authentic best self.
